Our Care Services

  • 1. What types of Residential Aged Care are available?

    Hunter Valley Care offers five types of care through our Residential Aged Care facilities: Respite Care, Low Care, High Care, Extra Services and Palliative Care.

    Respite Care

    Our respite care services offer family and carers the opportunity to take a short break from their caring responsibilities when it’s needed. We appreciate the emotional challenges that come with caring for a loved one. We can provide the support required so that the carer may have peace of mind that their loved one is safe, secure and well looked after. The maximum number of respite days available to anyone in a Residential Aged Care facility is up to 63 days (9 weeks) per year.

    Respite Care is offered at all Hunter Valley Care facilities.

    Low Care

    Low Level Care is suitable for people who need some assistance with their daily living activities. They may still be mobile but now find the burden of caring for their home, as well as their personal care and domestic duties, a little overwhelming to manage alone.

    Low Care services are available at all Hunter Valley Care Residential Aged Care facilities, seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

    High Care

    High Care is for people who require 24-hour nursing assistance with all their daily activities. They may be physically debilitated, disabled, suffer behavioural problems, or require palliative care. These people may require daily assistance with mobility, personal care, eating, medication management and rehabilitation.

    High Care services are available at all Hunter Valley Care Residential Aged Care facilities, seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

    Extra Services

    Extra Services involves the provision of additional services to enhance a person’s lifestyle. These hotel-type services may include a higher standard of accommodation, increased menu choices and additional lifestyle activities. The additional payment for Extra Services offers people greater choices in their daily living.

    Opting for Extra Services doesn’t provide for a higher standard of nursing care. All residents are provided with the same high quality care to meet their individual needs.

    Extra Services are available at all Hunter Valley Care Residential Aged Care facilities.

    Palliative Care

    Palliative Care focusses on relieving and preventing the suffering of people nearing the end of life. Providing comfort through Palliative Care involves a team of health professionals to address physical, emotional, spiritual and social concerns that arise for the person in care. Support for the family at this emotional time is integral to our Palliative Care philosophy.

  • 2. What is ageing in place?

    Our aging in place philosophy ensures that our residents have the opportunity to receive a seamless transition of aged care services in line with their changing individual circumstances. Providing continuity of care in familiar surrounds serves to create a secure, settled environment for residents, giving them peace of mind that they won’t have to move just because their care needs increase.

    Hunter Valley Care’s ageing in place philosophy is supported at all our Residential Aged Care facilities.

  • 3. What type of care is available at The Sanctuary?

    At The Sanctuary, we give residents the choice to manage their daily lives as they like. Without the burden of a house to maintain or domestic duties such as cleaning to worry about, people are free to make the most of their time. Residents have the choice to prepare their own meals, do their laundry, organise their own appointments and outings if they wish, or it can all be done for them. Residents also have the assurance that nursing care is on-hand as needed. Nursing staff are onsite throughout the day, seven days a week, and a 24-hour personal response service is available to alert an on-call carer in the case of an emergency.

    We can help arrange and provide government-funded Community Packaged Care to assist with the cost of health and personal needs.

  • 4. How do I access care services?

    An Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) assessment and approval is required to determine whether a person if eligible to access a Community Packaged Care for in-home care, or eligible to live in a Residential Aged Care facility.  Your doctor or local hospital can refer you to an ACAT.   • 5. What level of involvement can family members have in their loved one’s care?

    We always include family as a part of our care philosophy. The support of a new resident’s family members is the key to ensuring a successful transition from home to living in Residential Aged Care. Some family members may need individual assistance to overcome or come to terms with separation and/or changes in their own lifestyle, so we offer counselling to these persons. We encourage family members to partake in various social activities and share a meal with their loved one; we also make areas available for visiting away from others. We encourage family involvement in case conferencing and care planning, and will always consult with the family before amending their loved one’s care plan. We also seek feedback from family on our provision of services through audits and regular surveys.
